12 Unique DIY Projects Featuring Birch Wood

Birch is a hardwood tree and its wood is fine-grained and pale in color which makes it very attractive because of the satin-like sheen. Birch wood can be used for a variety of different projects and some of them are very simple. Here are a few DIY projects that you might like to explore.

Wood coasters.

If you want and if you have some leftover birch wood from another project, you could make some coasters. You’ll need slices of birch tree, acrylic paint, tracing paper and a printout or artwork. Trace the artwork on the wood using tracing paper and paint the slices. Add a coat of varnish and enjoy your new coasters.{found on happyserendipity}.

DIY Outdoor Swings, Perfect For Relaxing In The Garden

If you’re living in a house and especially if you have a garden with a large beautiful tree then you must know how great it can be to just sit outside and relax. This is one of the greatest advantages of owning a house. You can relax in the garden and you can even build a swing which is fun for both children and adults. Building a swing is not difficult. Here are a few ideas that could help.

Tree swing.

If you want to build a tree swing then you’ll need a piece of wood for the seat, another piece of wood for the top and some rope, wood glue, clamps, a drill, wood screws, sand paper and paint. Cut the piece of wood into two parts and then cut another two. Put the two longest pieces side by side and glue them together. After that, glue the two shorter pieces to the ends. Pre-drill holes in each of the four corners and then two holes in the outer corners. Sand and paint the wood and then add the rope. Make sure the knot is sturdy.{found on abeautifulmess}.

Creative ways in which you can repurpose Altoids tin cans

Altoids is a brand of breath mints and they’ve existed since the 18th century. The country of origin was Britain but, with time, the mints became less widely available there than in the countries where they are exported. Altoids has become a recognized symbol for the distinctive shape of the tin cans. These cans are very versatile and they can be repurposed in many different ways. Here are a few examples.

Message board.

If you have a few of these cans in your home or garage then you could use them to make a message board. You’ll need Altoids tins, spray paint, epoxy, pliers, a drill, strong magnets and a magnet with handle. First clean the tins and push the metal flaps inside using the pliers. Drill a small hole in the top right corner of one tin and top left corner of another. Then spray paint the cans. Paint the magnet with handle as well and use it for the tin that will become a key holder. Then arrange them all as you want and attach them to the wall.{found on designsponge}.

You don’t have to spend a lot of money in order to add style to your home. In fact, a space has more character if you decorate it with items that you have crafted yourself. Today we’ve made a selection of DIY projects focusing on 3D designs. It’s a nice way of adding some dimensions to your home décor.

Geometric accessories.

This is a very interesting and also very unusual object. It could be used as paperweight or simply as a decorative piece that you can display on a shelf. It resembles a faceted gem and it’s made of wood. It’s a nice project for a beginner sculptor. Maybe after this you’ll make something more complicated.{found on curbly}.

Small-Space Garden Ideas

It seems safe to say that by the end of winter, most of us are craving a little green. We start dreaming of lawns and tree leaves and flowers and gardens. One common challenge in the gardening realm comes down to sheer square footage. Frankly, some (many?) of us don’t have acres to commit to a large garden, which can perhaps discourage us from the thought of doing any garden at all. The good news is, however, that even in the smallest of spaces, growing a garden successfully is possible – deliciously so, if your intentions target vegetables and herbs. Here are five small-space garden ideas to get your green thumb going:

Pots.

This one is fairly obvious, of course, but it has to be included. Whether you have space for multiple small pots (like the tiers in this garden photo) or just a couple of large pots, this is a great method for growing an herb garden indoors. Imagine the deliciousness of fresh herbs year-round! Other vegetables (like tomatoes) thrive in pot gardens as well. Bonus: Pots are fairly mobile and can be moved indoors or outdoors according to weather.
