Vintage pieces are always stylish but true vintage can command a steep price. Instead, make your own lamp, featuring one of the great interesting light bulb designs that are now available. Start by cutting a piece of one-inch thick board into pieces with the dimensions shown. Sand the edges smooth and drill a hole in the center of one square board as shown. Stain the wood and allow it to dry overnight. Using wood glue, attach the square board that has the hole to the end of the longer board and allow this to dry overnight. Next, drill holes as shown and screw the two boards together for sturdiness. Glue the small pieces to the bottom to serve as legs.

Once this dries, you can install your purchased lamp mechanism to the wooden boards, pulling the cord through the hole you drilled in the base. Insert your decorative Edison light bulb and the bookends lamp is ready. It’s an easy vintage-looking piece to style any room in your home.
