Cozy single-family residence in Laguna Beach, CA

The house that you here now wasn’t always part of the picture. It has a nice story nevertheless. Katie, the current owner of this place, has spent most of her life right in that area. You’ll a cottage that’s still there. That used to belong to her father. Katie grew up in the house next door until she reached a time when she decided she wanted her own place. However, she didn’t want to live that area so she decided to build a house on the other side of the road, together with her ex-husband.

Because on the lot were some Torrey Pines that have been planted at her birth by her father, the new house had to be built around them, as not to destroy them. The new organization also included the existing cottage that has been restored and used as a place to live during construction. The new structure wrapped around the cottage and it was connected to a garden room, originally conceived as an enclosed porch. The cottage has been used as a guest house after that.

The new has the kitchen and the living room in the middle with high ceilings and glass walls overlooking the garden. The living room is also connected to a deck. Underneath there’s a bedroom. The whole concept was to create a home that would respond to the landscape and the client’s needs. The materials used were bamboo, maple, stucco and stone in earth colors, helping create a contemporary look.{found here}
