Polka-Dot Place Settings: Ideas & Inspiration

Polka-dots are whimsical, fun, feminine and downright precious. They can be dressed up, dressed down, perfect for a party, bridal show, afternoon brunch, summer lunch or a cozy family dinner. Use them on the napkins, table runner, on the plates or even on your wine glasses. They’re versatile enough to go anywhere and everywhere all at once. So, take an idea or two and use the tips from all these inspirations to create your own polka-dot inspired place setting!

1. Mix & match.

Polka-dots are one of the best patterns to mix and match with other patterns. Whether they’re funky or more subdued, they can pretty much meld with anything that hits your fancy. Chevron and polka-dots may just be my favorite. It’s chic and extremely eclectic at the same time, without be overtly fashion-forward.

2. Flowers.

Flowers and polka-dots is the ultimate girlish combination. Sprinkling some fresh flowers to a polka-dot inspired place setting is perfect for an evening hanging with the girls or a birthday party for a little one.

3. Subtly.

Maybe you want something a bit more elegant and less youthful. Try adding polka-dots with a bit of subtly. Use neutral colors and sheer fabrics for overlays. Use bigger dots instead of an insane amount of small circles and choose only one or two places to have them displayed.

4. Bright pops.

Have a focal point. Make your table completely monochromatic, then choose a plate, a glass or a napkin that adds a pop of color and polka-dot print. It adds fun and personality without being too over-the-top. It’s great for everyday family dinner or a special little get together to celebrate a special occasion.

5. Black & White.

If you want something incredibly sophisticated and elegant … but not boring … try out black and white polka-dots. For a day or night table, they work well and create texture to a sleek scape.

Use plates lined with a polka-dot rim. Use a burlap table runner that you’ve adding big, white polka-dots too for a rustic charm. Use a centerpiece bowl that’s covered in polka dots. Use saucers that have multi-color polka-dots. There are so many ways to add polka-dots to your place setting that it’s impossible to fail at putting something adorable together for yourself or your meal guests.

They’re fun. They’re flirty. They can be Victorian, retro, sophisticated or mod. Whatever you vision, commit and use these quick hints to get your ideas on a roll!
