Difference Between Decorating And Staging

“Decorating” and “Staging” are two terms of home décor that are often used interchangeably. However, though they are used synonymously but both the terms have their distinct and unique meaning.

Decorating is the art of decorating a house according to the taste and preferences of the client. The personality and the requirements of the client form the main focus of the decoration plan to be adopted. The home is tried to be made as usable and comfortable as possible for the client and his family members.

On the other hand, staging is a science of preparing the home and its varied features for sale in the real estate market. Staging is not concerned with the needs and preferences of the client, but it deals with the style that shall appeal to the universal buyers.

The motto of decoration is to create a customized environment that contributes to the functionality, needs, preferences, productivity, contentment, peace and happiness of a particular person or a family. Whereas the motto of the staging process is to make the home so appealing that it attracts the largest possible number of intended buyers. Home staging deals with increasing buyer traffic so that a faster sale takes place.

The decoration process is executed with a large budget and over a large period of time. The involved professional uses his special creativity and experience to study the buyer’s need to make the house of his dreams. The designer tries to remake or redesign the space. On the other hand, the staging process is executed with a tight budget within strict deadlines.

The professional study’s the buyer’s market and tries to renovate the house in such a way that it appeals to the buyers.  The stager tries to create the house of the buyer’s dream by placing himself in the shoes of the buyer.

The decoration of a home involves techniques to increase the functionality, enhance the comfort and to add personal touches so that the house is perfect for living for the client. New furniture pieces, furnishing and other utilities are often introduced.

On the other hand, the staging process of a home involves accentuating the features of the property, and not introducing new furnishings and utilities. The existing things are used primarily to prepare the house for showcasing. The house is de cluttered, cleaned and most importantly depersonalized in an attempt to make the house appear at its best.
