The Hudson Valley Country House is a contemporary house located in Cold Spring, NY. It was a project developed by New York-based studio Fractal Construction. The house was designed as a week-end retreat for the client’s family and it was completed in 2011. The architects decided to build it from prefabricated pieces and to assemble it onsite. This way the process was be quicker and a lot easier.
He exterior of the house is covered with wood panels. This makes the house blend into the surroundings while also allowing it to have a more rustic and inviting look. The house is actually structured into two separate volumes. They are connected by a bridge and each volume has its own internal structure.
The larger volume is the main house. It has three levels. The main floor includes the kitchen the living and the dining area and the third level houses the bedrooms. They have been placed here in order to allow the inhabitants to enjoy panoramic views of the beautiful landscape. On the ground floor you can find the playroom, an office, a wine cellar and an indoor pool. The pool can also become a separate area and it can be opened or closed with folding doors.
The second volume is smaller in size and includes the garage, a meditation/yoga room and a large terrace. Both volumes have large windows and skylights that let in lots of natural light. The windows also allow expansive views of the surrounding area. It’s a wonderful family retreat, a great place for relaxation and a place where you can forget about all your problems.
