Decorate using oversized art – a few ideas and suggestions
We’ve already given you a bunch of ideas for how to decorate your home using oversized mirrors. Now we’re moving on to something else but while following the same pattern. So here are a few ideas and suggestions for how to decorate with oversized art.
Art can mean anything. For example, this is a vacation home from Miami and it has a wonderful bedroom with an entire wall turned into artwork. It has a black background and it’s been created using art cut at different angles and that meets in a point and forms a swirl.
Oversized art is always a focal point. This is why when used, the rest of the room is usually very simple. This is another beautiful bedroom but this time with a brighter interior. It has an oversized, black and white piece of art with a sleek black frame.
And since we’re talking about bedrooms, here’s another one. This one also features an accent wall but this time it’s blue. The oversized artwork hanging above it features the same main color with a few other accents. The colors also match perfectly the bedding and the accessories.
The wall adjacent on which the headboard rests is usually a great place to hang artwork. Nevertheless, it’s not the only one. In fact, by choosing a different wall for display you would be able to admire the piece while resting in bed. You would also be able to wake up in the morning facing a beautiful sight.
Oversized art looks beautiful in the bedroom. However, it’s not the most common place for it to be displayed in. Living rooms are usually the primary choice. This modern residence really knows how to make art shine. Here, the black and white oversized picture displayed on the wall brings unexpected but beautiful contrast into the décor.
Of course, artwork can also be used to complement a certain interior décor by featuring the same color palette as the rest of the room. This living room made grey the main color and the rest of the colors are soft, pale tones so the whole combination is very relaxing.
Oversized art is, by definition, something that can be used as a focal point. However, if you wish to make it stand out even more you can also provide a second accent piece that matches the first one. For example, this living room has a beautiful and very colorful floral painting displayed on a wall but there’s also a bouquet of flowers matching the one in the painting on the coffee table.
Black and white artwork looks beautiful in minimalist interiors but it can also be used as a contrast element in more colorful spaces. Depending on the other colors involved in the décor, it can actually blend it quite beautifully.
If you really want to make justice to an oversized piece of art then you should display it on a wall towards which the view is not obstructed by furniture or anything else. It should really be the star of that wall and this way you can also take advantage of its size.
Also, oversized artwork does not necessarily refer to a single piece of art. Multiple pieces can be combined and the collage can be even more beautiful the separate pieces. This way you don’t have to choose a single piece when you actually like more than one.
Different types of décor ask for different types of artwork. A contemporary interior should have matching decorations so you first need to focus on style and then on size, color and the rest. And if you can’t clear the view towards the wall featuring the artwork then you could opt for transparent furniture and this shouldn’t be a problem anymore.
Dining rooms are also a great place to display oversized artwork or artwork of any size and type in. It wouldn’t be a distraction during dinner but rather something to focus on and something to enchant your eyes with while enjoying the meal.
Abstract art is hard to understand and to analyze. But it can have a quite calming and relaxing effect on people. Its mysterious side will always challenge you to crack the code and, while you’re doing that, you slowly drift away and find yourself meditating about your own problems.
Choosing the style is very important when looking for artwork to display in your home. And since we’re now focusing on oversized art, size is no longer something to be discussed. Colors, on the other hand, are always a challenging subject. Black and white pieces, as we already said, look beautiful in minimalist interiors and this white dining area supports this idea.
But colors can also be chosen to vaguely match the rest of the décor. The resemblance not being perfect, the décor wouldn’t be monotonous. Also, by choosing colors in the same palette you create a more inviting and less intimidating atmosphere.
