Accent lighting is important for creating a pleasant ambiance inside a room or for creating a comfortable and practical decor that focuses as much on looks as it does on functionality. There are a lot of different types of fixtures that could fall into this category. We’ll have a quick look at some of them right now.
Floor lamps are excellent for room corners and for reading nooks. The 7000 Stelo lamp has a very sleek and elegant design with a classic vibe evoking the interior designs from the 1950s. It has a Carrara marble base and a very slender tubular structure with a brass finish. It gives off subtle light and it stands out in a very subtle way.
Backlit mirrors are also a perfect example of looks and functionality seamlessly blended together. This right here is the Mir mirror designed by Marco Acerbis in 2017. As you can clearly notice, it has a large but at the same time slender frame around it as well as built-in backlighting which creates this very beautiful outline on the wall. The frame doubles as a shelf and there’s also a small box attached to the surface of the mirror which serves as a tiny storage module.
Sconces are another great form of accent lighting. Also referred to as wall lamps, they’re very versatile and can be used in a lot of interesting and stylish ways. The Waterfall sconce has a really elegant and modern design and looks great as a standalone accent fixture as well as in pairs. It features a combination of gold plated brass and crystal glass tubes and it measures 20 cm W x 25 cm D x 55 cm H in total.
Although visually this is a very large light fixture, it’s not meant to serve as a main source of light for the room but rather as an accent light. This is the Brass 96 suspension lamp designed by Paola Navone. Its lampshade has a very fluid and organic shape with an intentionally imperfect matt brass surface.
Some accent lights make wonderful decorations and can become focal points for the spaces that they’re a part of. A beautiful example is the Seed Cloud, a gorgeous installation with a sophisticated and glamorous design. It features a series of solid cast bronze buds each of which holds a glass drop with a built in LED light source.
Table lamps are perhaps the most common type of accent lights and they come in all sorts of different shapes, sizes and styles. The Anodine lamp stands out, featuring a unique design with a strong artistic vibe. It has a rectangular, flat metal base with a satin matte gold finish. Attached to this base are 26 stems, each holding a metal leaf with a tiny light source underneath. Each leaf is unique and made by hand.
Oddly enough, some chandeliers can serve as accent lights too. My Lamp is one of them. This is a chandelier made up of a collection of glass tubes all tied in a bouquet and held together by a curved metal band. The tubes are arranged in an offset pattern and they’re connected to an internal frame made of nickel-plated metal. The chandelier gives off diffuse light and stands out thanks to its sophisticated and modern design. Several versions are available.
The Melt series is also an amazing example of a sophisticated and intriguing design based on simple principles. These pendant light fixtures feature a very organic look. They’re quite abstract, reminiscent of melting glass spheres among other things. Each light individually is enough to make a statement but you can also combine several in order to a truly magnificent and unique installation.
The Chameleon Lamp is unique by any standards. It comes in three different versions, each featuring a chameleon striking a different pose and holding a light bulb with its tail. There’s the still chameleon, the one going down and the one going up. They’re the perfect accent lights for modern spaces that thrive on unique and unconventional designs that look cool but also tell a story.
The Soffi collection includes a series of unique light fixtures which rely on the pure and ethereal beauty of blown glass. Several teardrop-shaped globes are hanging from a solid but also very thin and slender frame and the entire ensemble looks weightless and very delicate. The faded color of the glass, the shapes and the combination of materials give each fixture a very sophisticated and stylish appearance. All the metal sections have a natural brass finish and each glass globe is surrounded by a leather strap at its thinnest section.
The Tweet T. pendant lamp is a light fixture disguised as a birdcage. In fact, one could argue that the accent lighting function is merely a small detail and that the primary function of this piece should be as a decoration. Either way, this is a symbolic design meant to stand out and to attract attention while also being useful in a rather unexpected way. There are two versions of this beautiful light fixtures. The birds inside are made of ceramic and in one case painted black and in the other they’re plated with 24-carat gold. The cages match the birds.
