How To Create A Funky, Retro Kitchen

Decorating with funky, retro flavor is easy and a lot of fun. If you love vintage-inspired pieces and playful nostalgic throwbacks the creating a kitchen dressed in some retro attire may be right up your alley. Fun color combinations, a bit of checkered patterns and maybe even a bit of nooks or crannies dipped in diner wear are all pieces that can come together and make the perfect retro kitchen. First, pick your color combinations. Some of the most popular retro-inspired pairs include: black and white, aqua and yellow, red and black and, green and yellow my personal favorite, pink and grey. This will be your vintage foundation so choose wisely. Retro kitchens are known for their crisp colors and pearly pastels!

O the themes you can choose when laying out your retro kitchen. Strawberries, cherries or diner duds, they’re all sure signs of the 50’s and 60’s kitchen attire. One you pick out your favorite colors, decide what theme fits the shades. Of course you can do this by picking the theme first and colors second. Whatever you choose, this will help you on your hunt for the best pieces and accents.

3. Appliances.

If you can afford to do so, switch out your appliances to fit your retro vision. Of course you can refurbish true vintage pieces but they’re also plenty of outlets to find new (and colorful) throwback appliances. From toasters to ovens and refrigerators, using these big pieces that look and feel like a real retro piece will only enhance the room’s look!

4. Linens.

Polka dot tablecloths and vintage curtains will also help to enhance the space. Decorate your breakfast nook to be all-encompassing retro escape and grab the cloth napkins out of the buffet table for a dinner that matches your kitchen’s new theme. Checkered prints, light floral designs and funky color combinations will make for an extra special accent.

And then comes the accessories. These will set off the space and round out the entire room. From vintage sugar canisters to antique food scales, you’ll need these items to complete the look. Straw canisters sitting on the counter, ketchup and mustard squeeze bottles sitting on the table and of course the most retro perfect table and chairs are just a few items you can find to help compliment the kitchen.
