The Latest Trends Straight From Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour

From the 12th until the 17th of March all interior design enthusiasts were able to visit London and take part at the Design Week 2017, an event that took place at Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour, the largest of its kind in Europe. We were there, ready to find out all the new trends from the world of interior design. The centre is home to more than 600 renowned brands and 120 showrooms. We got to see lots of great designs and ideas and we’ve now selected the highlights to share them with you.

One of the designs present at the event was the Miro console table from Portaromana. It’s an elegant piece of furniture that combines a sculptural base and a flat, rectangular top. The intricate metalwork contrasts with the simple and clean lines of the long top and their proportions complement each other perfectly.

We also got to see a lot of awesome table lamps like the Thread Lamp which features glass threading wrapped around its entire surface or the Perfume Bottle Lamp which has a very elegant and sophisticated design inspired by 50’s perfume bottles. The Bouble Lamp also stood out, with its retro-inspired design and uniqueness.

London Design Week also surprised its guests with some sleek and elegant furniture pieces such as the Isabel armchair by Carlo Colombo. The chair has a frame available in metal, wood and polyurethane. The seat and back cushions make the chair comfortable, giving it personality at the same time.

The design of the Soffio table displayed here is one defined by contrasts. The table has a rectangular top which doesn’t seem heavy or robust and that’s in part due to its slender look and thin structure. The legs that support it feature soft curves which soften the harsh, straight lines of the top.

This is Isola, a shelving system created by Massimo Castagna. The design combines tempered glass and brass in a very sleek and eye-catching way. The shelves are made of satin or silver-plated brass and they’re supported by transparent glass panels which allows them to appear to be floating and to maintain an airy decor.

Transparent tempered glass also makes up the body of the Pandora sideboard, a piece designed by Pinuccio Borgonovo. The sideboard has a metal structure with a patinated bronze finish complemented by matching hardware. The bottom shelf is available with gold leaf or satin marble accents.

This soft and comfy armchair is called Cloud and it has a wooden interior structure covered in non-deformable polyurethane foam available in different densities. The wooden feet are hidden underneath the chair’s robust body which can be covered in velvet, leather or suede. This is a design by Massimo Castagna.

The sculptural nature of the Albero bookcase may give it a modern flair but this piece was actually conceived back in the 1950s. It’s a floor-to-ceiling system with box-like shelves suspended around a central pole. It’s an eye-catching, statement piece still popular today. The bookcase was displayed at the event next to a Nivola sofa, a piece designed by Roberto Lazzeroni which impresses with its light design and curved backrest.

Judging by its design, the Arden sofa is a versatile piece that can easily fit in a lot of different settings and decors. For instance, we’d put it in a modern living room and we’d pair it with a tree stump side table or with a modular coffee table. We love the combination of wood and metal and the rustic-industrial vibe that’s still subtle enough to not overpower the design.

This is the Ekxess chandelier, a visually striking piece designed by Marc de Berny. We find its spiky design to be refreshing and dynamic, able to complete a modern space and to give a dramatic allure without necessarily becoming a strong focal point and without being at the center of the room. You can highlight its beauty by using mirrors to reflect its image.

Speaking of mirrors, they can be incredibly versatile as well as really stylish and glamorous if displayed in a way that enhances the overall decor of the space. The Konkave mirror has the glamorous and sophisticated touch needed to impress and to look chic and exquisite.

Another duo that impressed us in London is this one: a Venus desk complemented by the Bolle Terra floor lamp. The desk has a wooden body supported by a thin metal frame and a structure that allows it to also be used as a vanity. The lamp features a balanced combination of soft spherical shades and straight lines and a design that puts together glass and metal.

We also came across designs that bring back the elegance of past trends and styles. One such example is the Tortona shelving unit designed by Massimo Castagna. The design features a patinated bronze metal frame complemented by tempered glass shelves. There’s also a version available with a marble top.

Modularity is very appreciated these days and designs like that of the Citrine cocktail table are appreciated for their versatility and practicality. The table is composed of three modules that together form a round top structure. Each module combines a metal frame and a gray glass top.

Some furniture pieces look like they were made to be together, like the Dongiovanni sofa and the Stella coffee table. They both have sleek and stylish frames made of American walnut that add warmth and elegance to the room decor. Each piece has a certain something that makes it special. The sofa is available with fabric or leather upholstery and the table has a glass top.

We were also pretty impressed by the Paperweight desk designed by Roberto Lazzeroni. It’s made of solid American walnut and veneered poplar hickory. The desk is pretty generous when it comes to storage, featuring six drawers and two side doors. A cool and elegant thing about it is the fact that it has a leather top.

It’s important to find the balance between looks and comfort and we think that the Jasper lounge chair has that all figured out. It has a simple wooden frame and carefully-shaped upholstery meant to ensure a comfortable seating position. Use it together with an ottoman for an even better experience. Here’s an idea: the Celestite ottoman would be a great fit. It has a cozy and elegant look and you can even use it as a coffee table when needed.

It was at London Design Week that we also got to witness the beauty and charm of hand-painted ceramic tiles. We got to admire some really great collections like the Fornasettiana by Piero Fornasetti or Isabel by Ruben Toledo.
