Barstool Made of Recycled Corks from Phase Design

A few days ago I was telling you about the Earthship project that builds homes out of recycled car tires. Well, apparently more and more designers from all over the world, working in all fields have started thinking about using these recycled materials that you can find all over the place. So I find this interesting bar stool made by the guys from Phase Design and that proved my point. They used recycled corks from wine and champagne bottles to do it and I must admit the result is at least remarkable.

All the corks are gathered in a kind of mesh made of polyester that is after that coated with vinyl. You need about one thousand and two hundred such corks to make up a bar stool like the one you can see in the pictures. This delicate construction is then placed on top of a steel structure made of thin tubes, molded together in the shape of a stool. I really have no idea how comfortable this thing is, but it looks interesting.
