The things you should know about electric fireplaces
In order to decide whether or not an electric fireplace is indeed right for you and your needs, there’s a few basic things you should be aware of.
The advantages of an electric fireplace
Compared to gas or wood-burning fireplaces, the electric ones offer a series of major advantages. For example, you don’t need to buy or chop wood or to hook them up to a gas line. All you need is an electrical outlet. You also don’t need a permit to install an electric fireplace and you don’t need to install a vent or a chimney. Electric fireplaces don’t pollute and their surface doesn’t get hot, so they’re safe to touch and not dangerous if you have pets or children. Furthermore, they’re very low maintenance.
If you plan to use an electric fireplace to heat a room, efficiency is definitely something you should pay special attention to. Generally, a 120-volt fireplace can heat a room of up to 400 square feet. Some electric fireplaces can even heat up to 1.000 square feet. Some models have thermostats which make them even more efficient.
There are several different types of electric fireplaces and they’re each suited for certain types of spaces and needs. The wall-mounted ones for example are great for small rooms. They can be mounted on the wall or into the wall in order to save floor space.
Freestanding fireplaces can be placed anywhere as long as they sit against a wall. They’re easy to move around and they usually look similar to traditional fireplaces which have mantels. Some models are also designed to fit in corners.
There are also electric fireplaces which are combined with an entertainment center, resulting in a media console for the living room. They come in different styles, sizes and can have a variety of different configurations.
Electric stoves are designed to look like traditional wood stoves which gives them a distinctive appearance. They function just like regular electric fireplaces and they can be installed anywhere as well as moved around if needed.
Another option to consider is an electric fireplace insert. This is something that you can into the hearth of an existing traditional fireplace which is no longer functional. It’s a way to preserve the old original fireplace and to update it and make it functional once again but in a more modern way.
How to choose an electric fireplace
All electric fireplaces are more or less similar in the sense that they function the same and offer a lot of the same advantages. However, there are also numerous details and features that are unique to certain types of fireplaces or certain particular models.
How do electric fireplaces work?
In order to make an informed decision, it’s important to understand exactly how electric fireplaces work. They create a flame image by projecting LED lights onto a screen in a certain pattern. Some have more LED lights than others which can add more details to the flames and make them look more realistic.
Electric fireplaces also have a built-in heater and can be used all year round. They don’t need a vent or a chimney since they don’t create any smoke or real flames. They produce heat and in many cases the flames can be operated independently from the heater. They also offer several settings, allowing you to choose the intensity.
Some electric fireplaces also have built-in thermostats which allow you to maintain a constant temperature in the room, making them more efficient and cost-effective. However, not all electric fireplaces have heaters. Some are designed to only be decorative and to create flame images without producing any heat at all.
Generally, electric fireplaces can be installed pretty much anywhere. They’re even safe to install underneath the TV in which case it’s best to choose a fireplace with a front or bottom heater to avoid any damage to electronics placed in its vicinity.
Electric fireplaces can be installed both indoor and outdoor. Of course, if you plan on installing one on a patio or in an outdoor area you should be careful to choose an outdoor-rated model. Not all electric fireplaces are suitable for outdoor use.
How to choose a TV console
Regardless or whether or not you want your TV console to have a built-in electric fireplace, there’s a few things to consider before buying one. It’s not just the design that matters.
A TV console must allow you to feel comfortable while watching the TV. The viewing angle is very important. The screen should be positioned at eye level so the height at which it’s placed is dependent on the height of the sofa or the chairs. Make sure you make the measurements while seated in a comfortable and realistic position.
In cases where the TV is placed on a stand, it’s important to consider the voerall size that the stand should have in relation to the size of the TV. This ensures that it provides proper support and that the TV can’t be easily bumped. Also, make sure the stand offers sufficient weight capacity for the TV that you’ve chosen.
In some cases the overall size or layout of a room can pose problem when choosing a TV stand. If you find it difficult to come up with a configuration that allows you to be comfortable and that also complements the room layout, perhaps a stand that gives you more flexibility would be best. Consider a swivel stand that lets you adjust the angle of the TV.
It’s always useful to have a TV stand that offers you some sort of storage. Since we’re talking about a stand that also has a built-in electric fireplace, that reduces its storage capacity. Still, you should look for a model that has cutouts or a proper cable management system so you can enjoy a clean and tidy décor. Open shelves are also very space-efficient and extremely versatile which is why a lot of TV stands include them in their designs.
