They Painted Their Brown Wood Cabinets Worldly Gray and the Kitchen Looks Like a Different Home
Brown wood cabinets covered three walls of this kitchen, from the sink and stove to a tall bank of pantry storage beside the dining area. Dark countertops, blue-gray walls, and gray floors surrounded the cabinetry, while a small wooden range hood sat between glass-front cupboards above the stove.

Replacing the cabinets would have meant tearing out a large amount of storage. Instead, the homeowners kept the existing cabinetry and chose Sherwin-Williams Worldly Gray for the new finish. One part of the original design, however, wasn’t coming back: the glass cabinets surrounding the range hood.
The team at @refreshedandrefurbishedmb handled the cabinet refinishing and hardware changes, working alongside the kitchen designer and woodworker. The renovation paired painted cabinets with a new wood hood, reeded glass, white tile, and lighter surfaces.
Brown Cabinets Covered Three Walls

Tall pantry cupboards stood beside the stainless steel refrigerator, with full-height shaker doors and smaller cabinets above. Their warm brown finish matched the storage surrounding the stove and sink.

The cooking wall featured a narrow wooden hood between glass-front upper cabinets. Dark speckled countertops wrapped around the U-shaped layout, with a stainless steel range beneath the hood.

Over the sink, wood cabinets framed the window, with narrow drawers and glass-front storage beside the dishwasher. A wooden valance extended across the upper part of the window.
Worldly Gray Replaced the Brown Finish

The new kitchen has Worldly Gray shaker cabinets, black hardware, pale countertops, and light wood flooring. Recessed ceiling lights replace the former round fixture, while the textured ceiling has a smooth finish.

The pantry wall retains its tall storage arrangement, now painted to match the surrounding cabinetry. A dark refrigerator sits beside the cupboards, with the dining table and upholstered chairs visible in front.
Glass Cabinets Were Removed for a Larger Range Hood

The former hood and its neighboring glass cabinets made way for a broad wood enclosure above the stove. Its tapered shape extends toward the ceiling, with a thick horizontal band across the bottom.
White square tiles replace the blue-gray wall behind the cooking area, and a black range with brass-toned controls sits below.

From the side, the new hood projects over the cooking surface, with a ventilation insert visible underneath. The natural wood finish remains distinct from the painted cabinets.
Reeded Glass Replaced the Old Divided Panels

The sink area now has a black gooseneck faucet and pale stone-look countertops. White tile continues beneath the upper cabinets, including the section beside the window.

Corner cabinet doors received reeded glass after their wooden crossbars were removed. The ribbed inserts obscure the shelves behind them without closing off the glass-front storage.
The Before-and-After Comparison

The side-by-side view shows the old brown kitchen beside the finished renovation. The cabinet layout remains recognizable, while the stove wall has a different arrangement above the range.
