NEMA Chicago

The NEMA building Chicago is 896 feet tall with 76 stories. Some of its former names include 1210 South Indiana, 113 East Roosevelt, and One Grant Park. There are 622 parking spaces attached to the building.

In 2015, the Chicago Plan Commission approved NEMA’s development, along with St. Regis tower’s development, which is now the city’s third-tallest building.

Rafael Viñoly from Rafael Viñoly Architects designed the building’s exterior, and David Rockwell from Rockwell Group designed the interior. Real estate development company Crescent Heights developed the 800-unit apartment building. Construction finished in 2019.

The tower is made of three stacked parts with a site-filling base supporting them. The final design resembles Willis Tower without the large antennas. Both buildings use a framing system with interlocked steel tubes. NEMA also has concrete walls that attach to the perimeter columns for wind resistance.

NEMA won two awards in 2021 from the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH): the Award of Excellence and the Best Tall Building Audience Award.
