She Kept This 1940s Porch and Changed the Entrance With Paint
Peeling paint around the front door and layers of old paint across the concrete landing left this 1940s porch in need of repair. The brick steps, columns, roof, and door were still in place, so replacing the entrance was not part of the project.
Homeowner and Reddit user u/GeneralPineapple1001 repaired the worn areas and used paint to update the surfaces instead. Fresh white around the door, a new finish across the landing, and the existing green door gave the entrance a new base before plants and black accents were added.
Peeling Paint and Worn Concrete Covered the Entrance
Paint had come away from large sections of the wood surrounding the door, exposing brown patches beneath the white finish. The concrete landing had also lost much of its coating, leaving bare and painted areas across the slab.
The homeowner tried to remove the old paint from the concrete but could not get all of it off. Instead of leaving the uneven surface exposed, she chose a floor coating that could cover what remained.
Paint Covers the Damage Across Both Surfaces
White now covers the wood panels and trim around the door, removing the exposed patches that stood out against the brick. The landing received Valspar Porch, Floor, and Patio paint in Soft Stones, giving the concrete one pale gray surface.
The door uses Topiary Tint by HGTV Home Sherwin-Williams, color-matched in Valspar paint. Its pale green sits between the white surround and red brick, while black hardware and wall lights add contrast around it.
Plants Fill the Spaces Paint Left Open
The side-by-side view shows another part of the update that paint alone did not provide. Two hanging ferns fill the space above the door, while flower baskets on slim black stands occupy the empty corners beside it.
A layered doormat fills the center of the landing, and the black basket frames connect with the house numbers, lights, and door hardware. These additions use spaces that were empty in the before photo without covering the brick or crowding the narrow porch.
