DIY Halloween Chandelier From A Bird Cage

It’s never too early to start planning how you’re going to turn your home into Halloween headquarters. Whether you are planning to organize an elegant sit-down dinner or an open-house party, this DIY black cage decoration fits the bill. Horrifying yet sophisticated, the cage has many possibilities. You can customize it to become a chandelier, candle lamp or simply an interesting display for your side table.

One thing you can be sure of:  It will get your Halloween off to a screaming start!

It’s relatively easy to find old bird cages at flea markets and second-hand shops, so you don’t need to spend a fortune on a new one. Pop in to your local second-hand shop to see what else you can find. It’s the perfect place to shop for your Halloween party because these stores are filled with vintage, spooky accessories such as photos or posters you can display on your wall.

Here’s what you will need to turn a a cage into a Halloween chandelier:

Materials:

  • bird cage
  • green botanical twigs
  • a piece of wooden plank cut to size of the cage
  • black paint
  • sandpaper (optional)
  •  battery-operated tea lights or candlegat

Before starting this project, make sure that the surface of the cage is smooth. Sand it down with sandpaper if necessary.

Next, paint your bird cage black using either a paint brush or spray paint — either will work fine. Wait for it to dry well. In the meantime, paint all sides of the wooden plank black.

When both are dry, decorate the top of the cage with green botanical twigs and stems. Place the wooden plank inside through the doors and add battery-operated tea lights or candles to turn it into a Halloween chandelier. For safety, do not use open flame candles underneath flammable elements such as the decorations at the top of the cage.
