DIY: Wooden Create Sign

Adding a simple sign to a room, can really give a space some personality while allowing you to express yourself in a unique way! With that being said, signs can become pretty expensive rather quickly when you start looking at different sizes and styles. Also, if you’re looking for something very specific (like a name on a sign) then your search for that sign could easily turn into a quest! So why, put yourself through all that headache, when you can simply make your own sign!

Today I’m going to show you how easy it is to turn a few recycled materials (plus a blank pre-made sign) into a unique word sign! I decided to go with a ”create theme”, but you could choose any theme that you like!

Step 1: Paint your sign in one of your paint colors and set it aside to dry.

Step 2: Grab your paintbrush and dip it into one of your other colors and begin flicking your brush (or running your fingers through the brush bristles) to get a splatter like affect on your sign.

Keep repeating this step with your other two colors, until you’re happy with the overall look. Once you are happy with the overall look, set your sign aside to dry.

Step 3: Grab your stencils and spell out the word ”create”. Then trace around each stencil with your pencil and go back over your tracing with your paint pen. Finally, fill in each letter with your paint pen and set your sign aside to dry.

Step 4: Now take your random paintbrushes and lay them out in some type of design that you like. Once you’re happy with the look, glue down each one using some E6000 glue. When all your paintbrushes are glued down, set your sign aside to dry.

Once your sign is completely dry, you’re ready to hang it up!

The sign that we made today, would be the perfect addition to any craft room or be the perfect gift for that artist in your life!

Now if your loving this project but are not on the ”create sign” boat, that ok! This DIY is really open-ended and allows you to be as creative as you want. For example, I think a sign that would have the word ”writer” and pens or pencils at the top, would be cute as well!

If you made this project, what word sign would you create?
