This Water Spray Deters Stink Bugs and Keeps Them From Coming Back

Stink bugs kept showing up in the same places no matter how often I cleaned. Windows, vents, and the corners near cabinets were the only areas affected, which made it clear the problem was not the room itself.

I Used This Simple Spray for Stink Bugs and It Changed Where They Show Up

I tested one method that kept coming up: peppermint oil.

What I Did

I mixed:

  • 1 cup water
  • 10–15 drops peppermint oil
  • 1 small drop dish soap

I sprayed it directly on:

  • window frames
  • door edges
  • vents
  • visible cracks

I did not spray counters, floors, or open space.

What Changed

The spots that used to collect bugs stopped having any.

The same window corners that had multiple stink bugs each day stayed clear after spraying. New bugs did not use those entry points anymore.

They did not disappear completely, but they stopped coming through the same areas.

What This Actually Does

Peppermint oil does not kill stink bugs.

It disrupts how they locate entry points. The scent interferes with their ability to follow surfaces where they normally enter.

When applied on edges, those areas stop working as access paths.

Why It Fails for Most People

Spraying the air or wiping surfaces does nothing.

The bugs are not reacting to the room. They are reacting to edges, cracks, and openings.

If the spray is not applied directly on entry points, it has no effect.

What Makes It Work

  • apply only on frames, edges, and vents
  • reapply every few days because the scent fades
  • keep the mix light, not concentrated

Placement controls the result.

What I Changed After

I stopped spraying the whole kitchen.

I treated only the points where outside meets inside and sealed a few visible gaps. After that, the number of bugs inside dropped without needing to spray everything else.

What This Actually Fixes

The issue was not how to remove stink bugs from the kitchen.

The issue was where they were entering.

Peppermint oil works as a barrier. When it is used on entry points, it changes how often bugs get inside.
