She Turned Her Stainless Steel Fridge Into a Vintage-Looking Appliance, but Didn’t Fix the Broken Water Dispenser
Stainless steel refrigerators can look out of place in kitchens filled with traditional cabinets, floral wallpaper, and vintage decorations. Replacing one with a retro-style model can cost thousands, even when the existing refrigerator still works.

TikTok creator Lavender Estate had a large stainless steel French-door refrigerator beneath cream cabinets with pink floral knobs. Rather than buy another appliance, she decided to change its exterior using dark wood-grain contact paper.
The makeover went beyond covering the silver doors. Gold ornaments, old framed pictures, and a new use for the broken water dispenser turned the refrigerator into something far removed from its factory finish.
The Stainless Steel Refrigerator Before the Makeover

The original refrigerator had two tall stainless steel doors, curved metal handles, a water and ice dispenser, and a wide bottom freezer drawer. Its silver surface stood against cream cabinetry, small floral wallpaper, and pale patterned flooring.
The appliance filled the space beneath the upper cabinets, leaving room for a new finish without changing the kitchen layout.
Dark Wood-Grain Contact Paper Covered the Silver Doors

Instead of painting the metal, the creator applied dark brown adhesive vinyl with a visible vertical wood-grain pattern. She worked across the doors, pressing the material against the surface and trimming it around the dispenser.
The original water and ice controls remained accessible during the process, while the stainless steel surrounding them disappeared beneath the new finish.
The vinyl continued around the door edges and exposed side of the refrigerator. Matching the grain direction across these surfaces made the covering resemble dark wood panels rather than separate sheets attached to a metal appliance.

She also covered the bottom freezer drawer, where the original silver handle gave way to the dark finish seen on the completed refrigerator.
Gold Corner Ornaments Changed the Look Again

Once the covering was in place, the creator added ornate gold-colored corner decorations to the refrigerator doors. Their curled, floral patterns resemble metal embellishments found on antique cabinets and picture frames.
The dark wood grain provided a contrasting background for the gold trim, while the refrigerator’s long handles blended into the new surface.
Vintage Pictures Went Straight Onto the Refrigerator

The finished doors hold more than decorative corner pieces. An oval gold frame containing a winter landscape hangs on the left door, while the right carries a vintage-style calendar, a small bow, and a diamond-shaped framed picture.
These additions make the refrigerator resemble a decorated wooden cabinet. The original door arrangement remains, but its appearance now connects with the kitchen’s floral wallpaper, cream cabinets, and antique-style details.
The Broken Water Dispenser Became a Spice Rack

One part of the refrigerator didn’t receive a conventional makeover. The water dispenser was broken, so the creator used its recessed opening for storage instead of repairing it.
The footage shows contact paper fitted around the dispenser area, with the original control panel and dispensing compartment exposed during the work.
In the finished arrangement, the opening holds Kinder’s seasoning jars. Floral backing and gold-colored trim give the compartment the appearance of a small recessed shelf.
The Refrigerator Now Resembles a Dark Wood Cabinet

From across the kitchen, the stainless steel has disappeared beneath the dark wood finish. Gold corner ornaments, framed artwork, and dark handles make the appliance look closer to vintage furniture than a standard refrigerator.
The French doors, bottom freezer, and original appliance structure remain in place. The makeover changes the exterior without requiring a new refrigerator, while the broken dispenser gains a purpose beyond dispensing water.

Dark wood-grain contact paper, gold corner trim, and vintage artwork changed the appearance of the refrigerator. The broken dispenser became a place for spices rather than a reason to replace the appliance.
