She Didn’t Replace the Plants for Fall, Just Tucked Autumn Leaves Around Them
Tall blue-green plants stay inside the black porch urns as fall color moves in around their bases. Debbie of Debbiedoo’s skipped the usual seasonal replant and tucked orange, red, and yellow faux leaves over the soil instead.
Potted mums, pinecones, pumpkins, and cut branches carry the same colors across the porch. The urns need no new plants for the change. Their summer greenery becomes the backdrop for a removable fall layer.
Existing Plants Stay at the Center of the Urns
Matching black urns flank the porch steps, each holding a tall blue-green plant. Orange and red leaves fill the space below the foliage and cover much of the visible soil.
Yellow mums sit in a separate pot near the left urn. Ivy remains in the planter at right, showing that neither the upright plants nor the trailing growth had to come out before the fall pieces went in.
Orange Leaves Fill the Space Below the Foliage
Pale blue-green branches rise beside the front door while orange leaves gather near the urn rim. Keeping the fall material low preserves the shape and height of the plant.
Brown brick, a dark urn, and the wood door give the orange leaves a subdued background. No fall flowers were added to this container.
Potted Mums Sit in Front Instead of Replacing the Plant
Yellow mums occupy their own terracotta pot on the brick step. Behind them, the black urn still holds its tall plant with fall leaves around the trunk.
Separating the two means the mum can move or come inside without disturbing the larger planter. It also puts the yellow flowers near step height instead of packing another plant into the urn.
Matching Leaf Layers Connect Both Urns
Both urns can be seen from the porch, revealing the repeated treatment on opposite sides of the entrance. Orange leaves circle each plant while the blue-green foliage rises above.
Trailing ivy remains on one side and drops below the rim. The added leaves work around what was growing there instead of requiring both containers to have the same plants.
Leaves Cover the Soil and Spill Over the Rim
Maple-shaped faux leaves overlap across the top of the urn in orange, yellow, and red. Several extend past the scalloped edge, hiding the boundary between the soil and container.
Pinecones sit among the leaves near the plant stems. The seasonal pieces occupy the unused surface at the base, leaving the established plant exposed above them.
Pinecones Bring the Same Colors to the Steps
Wire rooster decor holds pinecones, pine branches, and orange leaves beside a white pot of purple flowers. The existing flowers remain part of the porch rather than being swapped for fall blooms.
Brown pinecones and orange foliage connect this smaller arrangement with the urns. Each container keeps its original contents while fall material fills gaps around them.
Pumpkin Vase Adds Fall Color Between the Chairs
White faux pumpkin sits on a blue stand between two yellow rocking chairs. Its opening holds yellow flowers, orange berries, red leaves, bare branches, and small pumpkins.
Yellow mums fill a pot in front of the arrangement. These movable pieces bring the fall palette into the seating area without changing the chairs or nearby plants.
Red Leaves Extend Beyond the Pumpkin
Red foliage spreads from one side of the white pumpkin, joined by orange berries and yellow flowers. Bare branches add height above the denser flowers.
White pumpkin and yellow chair keep the arrangement from blending into the darker red leaves. The same leaf colors used around the porch urns now appear higher in the flower arrangement.
Yellow Rocking Chair Connects With the Mums
Yellow paint on the rocking chair matches the potted mums beside it, while a sunflower cushion repeats the flower color against the seat.
Pumpkin arrangement sits past the chair, bringing orange and red into a section already dominated by yellow. Existing furniture becomes part of the fall palette without a seasonal cover or paint change.
Fall Pieces Form Small Groups Across the Porch
Rocking chairs occupy the covered section while the pumpkin vase and potted mum fill the space between them. Another chair and seasonal accents sit near the door.
Decor remains concentrated around furniture, planters, and the entrance rather than covering the walking area. The large urns stay near the outer edge, where their height frames the porch.
Blue-Green Foliage Still Dominates the Planter
Black urn fills the foreground with its tall blue-green plant intact. Orange and red leaves form a narrow band at the base, making the seasonal addition clear without hiding the plant.
Front door, pumpkin, chair, and fall sign continue the theme behind it. Once fall ends, the faux leaves and pinecones can come out while the plant remains in the urn.
