Scotchman’s View Farmhouse, designed by AD Houses and completed in 2024 on Victoria’s Bellarine Peninsula, reinterprets the classic farmhouse with a sleek, contemporary edge.
The 516 m² residence, built on a 44-acre site, features a striking black facade crafted from Colourbond and Cambia Ash Timber, blending modern aesthetics with rural roots. This bold exterior, paired with rammed earth and natural stone elements, creates a robust yet refined structure that honors its Australian landscape while showcasing exceptional craftsmanship.
At the heart of the home lies a rock-stacked fireplace, a central feature that embodies both functionality and design. This triple-sided stone chimney column, constructed with local materials, serves as a gathering point, radiating warmth and rich textures throughout the open-plan living area. The vaulted ceiling and expansive windows enhance the sense of space, connecting the interior to the stunning bay views.
The U-shaped footprint, thoughtfully oriented to avoid prevailing winds, optimizes natural light and airflow, reducing reliance on external energy sources. Collaborations with Kate Patterson Landscape Architects and Heycon Construction ensured the home integrates seamlessly with its terrain, using monolithic rammed earth walls to retain heat and coolness.
The farmhouse maintains its modern farmhouse identity with warm timber floors, handmade fixtures, and curated Australian artwork. The eastern wing offers an adult sanctuary, while the central living space invites communal interaction.
