The low and flat roofline allows the house to maintain a modest scale and to look more inviting. At the same time, the facades have been opened up in order to take advantage of the beautiful panoramic views over the ocean and to let sufficient light into all the different interior spaces.

The living areas are also extended outside onto the beautiful open decks facing the ocean. A small section of the house is two-floors high and the views from up there are magnificent.

Chilean Beach House

beach house

This modern beach house makes a strong visual impact. It’s located in Cachagua, Chile and was designed and built by studio Martin Schmidt Radic Arquitectos Asociados.

The team had a clear idea in mind from the start of what the house should look like and what it should prioritize in terms of design and features.

The site that it stands out has a nice view of the coast and sea. One objective was to frame the views in a seamless and natural way.

beach house

The owners wanted an open living area, a nice view, and a fireplace. The kitchen needed to have easy access outdoors for entertainment purposes and convenience.

Living Room Setting

The living room allows you to stay connected to the outdoors. And the floor-to-ceiling ocean views allow you to enjoy the sunset every day.

The architects made sure to include plenty of beautiful outdoor areas which can be enjoyed throughout the day, like a big al fresco dining area with a bbq station and a nice open deck with a hot tub.

Bundeena Beach House

beach house

This lovely beach house fits beautifully in this area and really looks like it belongs here.

It’s located in Bundeena, Australia and it was designed to be a little weekend retreat, a place where the owners can escape and city and enjoy a few tranquil moments by the ocean.

The design created for it by studio Grove Architects comes as a direct response to these requests.

What makes this beach house stand out compared to many others is the fact it’s surrounded by lots of greenery and vegetation and this detail is reflected in the building’s design, more specifically its green roof.

beach house

This strong connection to the surroundings allows the house to feel very close to nature and to make the interaction between the indoor and the outdoor spaces feel natural and seamless.

This is an aesthetic that’s common to this area and the house stands out from this perspective.

Marina Lancheros Beach House

beach house

This ocean front property in Lima, Peru, personifies beach living. It’s positioned on a cliff facing the Pacific Ocean and the site on which it stands has a rugged and uneven topography. Designed by Giovanni Schettini Architectos, this area.

beach house

As expected, one of the main objectives was to give each and every area of the house a great view. In response to that, the architects came up with a tiered design which structures the house on six levels starting from the street level at the top and going down to the pier.

This way each floor has an unobstructed view towards the ocean and also allows the various functions to be spread out and organized in a more independent way.

Camano Island Beach House

beach house

This house takes the place of a small coastal cabin that used to sit on this property on Camano Island, in Washington. The owners wanted an upgrade so they decided to get rid of the cabin and to replace it with something bigger and more modern. They worked with studio Designs Northwest Architects to make this dream come true.

beach house

The area here is really beautiful. The site is positioned at the bottom of a super steel slope which acts as a cool backdrop for the new house.

beach house

The remote location was a challenge for the designers. The architects had to deal with certain restrictions such as the fact that there was no way of bringing heavy equipment on-site or for concrete trucks to reach this area.

beach house

A choice was made instead to use low-maintenance materials and to build the house above ground using steel columns.

Naman Residence

beach house

Located in Non-Nuoc Beach in Vietnam and designed by MIA Design Studio, this modern beach house combines modern and classic architectural styles. The tropical landscape and plenty of greenery around it and the ocean just a few meters away.

beach house

This example is not as open toward the ocean, and is positioned a towards the back of the property. The trees and vegetation act as a shallow barrier between the house and the water.

beach house

This type of placement and orientation allowed the house to retain a nice level of privacy but also meant the views were a bit obstructed. To make up for this the architects included a rooftop terrace into the design.

Up here there’s a cozy sunken sitting area, space to move around and glass railings that allow an unobstructed view of the whole surrounding area.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)FAQ

What Are The Most Important Things To Consider When Buying A Modern Beach House?

Due to a high-demand for housing, your credit score will be the most important issue when purchasing a beach house. The second thing you’ll need is extra cash for necessary remodeling and repairs. And third, plan if you want to use your beach house as a short term rental property.

What Is The Most Expensive Beach House In California?

Located in the small town of Carpinteria, California, the “Sanctuary at Loon Point,” is valued at $160 million. The home sits above the Pacific Ocean on a 22-acre estate.

How Do Rising Sea Levels Threaten Beach Houses?

The rising sea level isn’t a threat to beach houses. In the next century, water levels might pose a threat, but that’s doubtful. Plus, you won’t be alive, so it’s pointless to worry about something that isn’t a threat now and won’t be a threat in 100 years.

Can A Beach House Have A Flat Roof?

The location of the beach house is the most important thing to consider. In regions where rainfall is heavy, a flat roof could leak more than a gabled roof. To safeguard against interior water damage, durable roofing material will be required.

Do Solar Panels Help You Save Money If They’re Installed On A Beach House?

Location will determine the savings or expenses accumulated by solar panels. The average price of a solar panel in California is $2.73 per watt. A 5-kW system would cost about $10,000, and that’s with the federal solar tax credit. The money you save will depend on local electricity rates.

Modern Beach House Conclusion

Enjoy a swim in the saltwater ocean. The calm atmosphere of modern beach houses gives you time to think about the things you’ve left behind.

With similar technologies applied to smart houses, your beach house can have a modern look and still feel informal.
