Living Above the Trees: The Falcon Ledge Residence
We received the Falcon Ledge Residence through our project submission form, and it immediately stood out. The home, part of Alter Studio, anchors itself to a steep Austin ravine with a clear, disciplined structure.
It rises above dense tree canopies, wrapped in vertical steel panels and warm recessed wood that sharpen its geometric profile. Every cut, corner, and volume follows construction logic and the constraints of the site, giving the house a grounded, purposeful character.
The home opens to long, uninterrupted views of the Texas Hill Country. The living room stands out with its slatted timber walls and the iconic Womb Chair by Knoll, adding sculptural comfort to the clean, modern lines. Light wood floors and matte black cabinetry keep the palette crisp and simple.
The upper floor holds the main living spaces, where large sliding glass panels pull the landscape directly into the kitchen, dining room, and lounge. Steel-framed openings and extended balconies turn every room into a viewpoint, connecting the interior to the terrain below.
In the bedroom, the classic Eames Lounge Chair with Ottoman creates a quiet corner for reading and reflection. Built-in oak shelving completes the warm, minimal feel, blending craftsmanship with everyday comfort.
The bathroom centers around a sculptural freestanding tub, set against dark plaster walls and paired with warm brass fixtures for a calm, spa-like feel.
