He Spray Painted the Warm Wood Cabinets a Dusty Blue and the Kitchen Looks Far More Expensive

Warm wood cabinetry ran through both sections of this cottage kitchen, starting around the sink and cooktop before appearing again beyond the dining table. Plank-style doors, matching end panels, open shelving, and tall storage carried the same wood finish across much of the long room.

Instagram creator @alpha.spray resprayed the cabinets in Farrow & Ball Oval Room Blue. The muted blue-green covered the doors, drawers, cabinet frames, peninsula, and open storage while leaving the existing cabinet layout in place.

White counters, subway tile, appliances, brown floor tiles, and wood dining furniture remained. The new cabinet color changed the largest repeating surface in the room without removing the features that gave the kitchen its cottage character.

The sink and cooktop formed an L-shaped work area at the front of the kitchen, with wood base cabinets extending beneath the white counter. Vertical boards covered the exposed peninsula end beside the oven.

Beyond the dining table, another cabinet run filled the back wall. Using the same wood finish in both areas connected the two parts of the long kitchen before the repaint.

Another bank of wood cabinetry occupied the wall beside the refrigerator. Upper cabinets included an open center section and built-in wine rack, while the base curved toward the doorway at one end.

The plank-style construction continued across the doors and drawer fronts. A natural wood door beside the cabinets added another warm surface to this end of the room.

Tall storage started the cabinet run at one end, followed by upper cabinets, base storage, and open corner shelves. White counters separated the upper and lower sections.

The dishwasher occupied the opposite end beneath the counter. Rather than changing this arrangement, the project kept the cabinet configuration and worked with the doors, drawers, and storage already in the room.

Farrow & Ball Oval Room Blue replaced the warm wood finish across the sink cabinets and cooktop peninsula, then continued onto the cabinetry visible at the far end of the room.

The plank-style fronts remained easy to recognize beneath the new color. Their vertical boards and framed construction now appear as details within one continuous blue-green surface instead of sections of visible wood grain.

White counters and subway tile stayed in place, creating a light break above the newly painted base cabinets.

Oval Room Blue covered the upper cabinets, curved base, drawer fronts, open storage, and wine rack beside the refrigerator.

The open center section remained, but books now fill the shelf beneath the wine bottles. Cup pulls and round knobs stand out against the painted fronts while preserving the cottage character of the original cabinetry.

The nearby refrigerator remained white, creating a clear boundary beside the new cabinet color.

The back storage wall received the same finish from the tall cabinet on the left to the open shelves at the opposite end.

Upper doors, drawer fronts, base cabinets, side panels, and trim now share Oval Room Blue. The white counter and dishwasher remained, along with the original L-shaped configuration.

Open corner shelves also received the blue finish, connecting them with the surrounding cabinet run rather than leaving a section of exposed wood.

The before-and-after makes one detail stand out: the wood dining table and chairs were never part of the problem. Once the cabinets turned Oval Room Blue, those natural wood pieces became the warm accent instead of blending into a room filled with the same brown tones.

Even the simple plank-style doors take on a different role under paint. What looked like basic wood cabinetry now reads more like intentional cottage millwork.

Would you have kept the wood or made the same color change?
