He Painted the White Kitchen Cabinets a Bold Blue and the Whole Kitchen Took on a Custom-Built Look
Many kitchen remodels start with demolition. This one started with paint. In a transformation shared by Instagram creator @accentwalls_neo, the original white cabinets received a bold Sherwin-Williams blue finish that changed the look of the entire kitchen.

The makeover extended beyond the perimeter cabinets. The island, pantry door, and cabinetry surrounding the refrigerator received the same blue paint, replacing the original white finish across the room.
White stone countertops, a gray subway tile backsplash, stainless steel appliances, and dark wood floors remained in place. With no visible changes to the layout, the kitchen took on a new character through color.
White Cabinets Defined the Original Kitchen

The original kitchen featured white raised-panel cabinets, a central island, and a stainless steel side-by-side refrigerator beneath a second-floor overlook. Gray walls surrounded the space, while a dark subway tile backsplash contrasted with the cabinetry.
High ceilings and upper windows brought daylight into the room, but the white cabinets blended into the surrounding trim and countertops.

From the sink side, the existing layout offered a long counter beneath two windows, with the dishwasher beside the sink and a gas range against the adjoining wall. The island provided another work surface without interrupting access to the appliances.
Paint Replaced White With a Bold Sherwin-Williams Blue

Rather than replace the cabinet doors, the project involved painting them in a rich blue from Sherwin-Williams. The detached raised-panel doors were laid out on protected work surfaces, showing the fresh paint finish across the panels and frames.
The new color falls between royal blue and deep navy, with a sheen that catches light across the cabinet faces.

Once reinstalled, the blue covered the upper cabinets above the range, the lower cabinets, and the island drawers. Existing silver-toned handles and exposed hinges remained, standing out against the darker finish.
The gray subway tile now forms a softer transition between the blue cabinetry and white counters.
The Island Became the Center of the Makeover

The central island received the same paint as the perimeter cabinets, including its broad end panel and base trim.
Before the makeover, its white finish matched the counters. The blue base now creates a strong division between the white stone surface and dark wood flooring, giving the island the appearance of a separate furniture piece.

From the opposite side, the blue island sits between the sink and cooking area, with the existing walkway and work surfaces preserved.
The Pantry Door Received the Same Blue Finish

Before painting, the pantry door beside the beverage refrigerator was white, matching the cabinets around it. The nearby counter and upper storage also had white finishes.

The door now carries the same blue as the cabinetry, with its raised panels and curved upper detail standing out against the gray wall. White casing separates the painted door from the surrounding surface.
The beverage refrigerator and adjacent white countertop stayed in place.
The Finish Changed How the Cabinet Details Look

Close-up views reveal the sheen of the blue paint across the raised-panel doors, cabinet frames, and molding. The finish reflects light from the windows, while the silver hinges and rectangular pulls provide contrast.
The original cabinet profiles remain visible beneath the paint, preserving the existing door style.
The Refrigerator Wall Was Part of the Transformation

The stainless steel side-by-side refrigerator remains beneath the upper cabinets, with another painted cabinet and a short white counter to its right.

Blue paint now connects these storage sections with the rest of the kitchen, without changing the refrigerator placement or surrounding walls.
The Before-and-After Shows What Paint Changed

The side-by-side comparison shows the original white kitchen beside its blue counterpart. Cabinet placement, countertops, windows, and backsplash remain consistent, making the color change the main difference between the two views.

From the wider angle, the blue cabinetry extends from the cooking area toward the pantry and island. The white surfaces that once blended into the cabinets now stand out against them.
The makeover demonstrates how much a kitchen can change without replacing its cabinets or redesigning its floor plan.
Would you have kept the white cabinets, or would you have chosen this bold blue finish?
