This Apartment Has Fresco Ceilings and a Staircase That Disappears into the Wall
Located inside the historic Palazzo Stefanelli in Florence, Casa A by Pierattelli Architetture showcases a perfect harmony between heritage and modern design.
The 130-square-meter apartment reveals the studio’s refined approach to integrating contemporary functionality with historical context. High ceilings adorned with frescoes, detailed wall paneling, and soft natural light define an atmosphere of understated elegance.
At the heart of the living space, a rust-colored Marenco sofa by Arflex and terracotta-toned dining chairs bring warmth and continuity across the open-plan layout. The oval marble table by Cappellini anchors the dining area, while the Saarinen Executive Chairs by Knoll balance sculptural form and comfort. The geometric CC Tapis rug introduces texture and movement, complemented by fluid lighting fixtures like Baxter’s Nuvola pendants.
The most striking feature lies in the bedroom — a wooden staircase that literally disappears into the wall. Crafted from walnut with concealed hinges, it folds seamlessly to reveal access to a hidden loft studio. This ingenious element transforms a functional necessity into a design statement, embodying the studio’s philosophy of timeless balance between tradition and innovation.
