These Recycled Bricks Turned an Exposed Tree Base Into the Best Part of the Front Yard
Want a front yard that feels finished without adding expensive landscaping? Most tree bases end up looking forgotten. Exposed roots, uneven dirt, and loose gravel can make even clean yards feel unfinished from the street.
That is why this project from TikTok creator @bedmondroad started getting attention. Instead of removing the tree or covering the area with mulch alone, he used recycled bricks to build a raised planter wall around the trunk.
The result changed more than the tree itself. The curved brick structure started acting like a built-in landscape feature that gave the whole front yard more shape and structure.
The Recycled Bricks Added Instant Character
New bricks often look too clean for garden projects. These recycled bricks did the opposite.
The worn edges, faded color variation, and uneven surfaces gave the planter a look that felt older and more established from the beginning. Some bricks carried darker marks while others had softer orange and red tones, which helped the wall blend with the gravel and surrounding plants.
Instead of feeling decorative, the planter started looking like it had always been part of the yard.
The Circular Shape Changed the Whole Tree Area
Most tree bases disappear into the landscape. This one became a focal point.
The curved brick wall gave the tree more presence and helped define the area around it without adding fencing or large borders. As the wall grew higher, the entire space started feeling more intentional from the sidewalk.
The shape also softened the hard lines created by the driveway and gravel yard.
The Raised Bed Created More Depth Across the Yard
Once the soil was added inside the wall, the tree stopped looking flat against the ground.
The raised bed introduced height variation into the landscape, which made the front yard feel more layered even without large plants or complicated landscaping. The brickwork also created shadows and texture that changed throughout the day as sunlight moved across the yard.
That contrast made the tree stand out more than before.
Why the Brick Pattern Works
The bricks were stacked in an offset pattern instead of straight vertical lines.
That detail changed the entire look of the structure. The overlapping layout added depth and gave the wall more movement from different angles. Small gaps and slight imperfections also helped the planter feel more handcrafted instead of machine-built.
Because the bricks were reclaimed, no two sections looked exactly the same.
The Front Yard Started Feeling More Defined
The biggest difference came after the dark soil was added inside the planter.
Before the project, the tree sat in the middle of gravel with no real transition around it. After the raised bed was finished, the tree area started acting like its own destination within the yard.
The brick border separated the planting space from the gravel and created a cleaner visual flow across the front landscape.
