She Told Herself She Only Had to Clean for 2 Minutes, Then the Sink Looked Like This
A sink packed with bowls, pans, utensils, containers, and a cutting board can turn washing dishes into a job that keeps getting pushed to the next day. Reddit user u/sleepydeepydar approached that pile with a smaller commitment: clean for two minutes, then stop if that was enough.

Two minutes did not become the stopping point. Once the first dishes moved, the homeowner kept going until both basins were empty, then tackled the stainless steel itself. The post centered on getting started rather than finishing within a set time. As the homeowner put it, even 30 seconds still counts when a task has become hard to begin.
Two Minutes Made the Sink Feel Like a Smaller Job

With dishes removed, the double-basin sink reveals another job underneath. Food residue, water marks, and discoloration remain across the stainless steel, with heavier brown buildup around the right drain.
Clearing the dishes first split one crowded task into two visible stages. Reddit commenters shared similar methods, including washing five or ten dishes at a time or cleaning for the length of one song. The common point was a small starting target rather than a promise to clean the whole kitchen.
Steel Wool Took Care of the Marks Left Behind

Reddit users noticed the change in the stainless steel, and u/sleepydeepydar explained what made it: a steel wool ball. The sink scrub had also been put off, but once the steel wool was on hand, the homeowner said that part took about five minutes.
Both basins now show bare stainless steel around the drains, with the brown buildup seen in the previous photo removed. New mesh drain strainers replace the old stopper and dark drain insert visible earlier.
Steel wool does come with a caution. It can scratch stainless steel and leave iron particles behind that may rust, so this is what the Reddit user used rather than a method suited to every stainless-steel sink. A nonabrasive sponge or cleaner made for stainless steel is a safer place to start when the sink manufacturer advises against abrasive scrubbers.
What began as permission to clean for two minutes ended with the dishes put away and the sink scrubbed. The useful part of the method is not forcing two minutes to become a full cleaning session. It is making the first commitment small enough to begin.
