Instead of Buying a Toilet Paper Holder, She Made One From Brass Lamp Parts
Most people shopping for a toilet paper holder look in the bathroom hardware aisle. Few would think to check a store selling lamp components, but that’s where the materials for this brass fixture came from. Two hollow pipes, a threaded connector, and a few small fittings were enough to create a wall-mounted holder that looks like a finished bathroom accessory.
In a project shared on Homedit, Brittney Smart assembled the unfinished brass pieces without cutting, soldering, or modifying the metal. The result was mounted against a black bathroom wall, where the gold-toned finish stands out beside the white toilet.
The Parts Were Made for Lamps, Not Bathrooms
Six brass components formed the original collection: a 3-inch pipe, a 6-inch pipe, a 90-degree armback connector, two mounting flanges, and a flat circular cap. One flange was optional for the horizontal installation.
Both pipes had threaded ends, allowing them to connect to the fittings without welding or additional fabrication. The shorter pipe would support the holder from the wall, while the longer one would carry the toilet paper roll.
Two Pipes and a Connector Created the Shape
The shorter pipe joined a threaded wall flange to the 90-degree connector. Once the longer pipe was attached, the pieces formed an L-shaped fixture with enough clearance between the wall and the roll.
The threaded fittings were designed to connect lamp components, but their shape worked for this bathroom accessory. No cutting or drilling into the brass was required.
A Brass Cap Made the Fixture Look Finished
A round brass cap covered the exposed end of the longer pipe, providing a stop for the toilet paper roll. Its flat face matched the mounting hardware, while the narrow pipe kept the design compact.
The assembled fixture used the unfinished brass surfaces as its final appearance, without additional paint or decorative covering.
The Finished Holder Was Mounted Beside the Toilet
Mounted against a black wall, the brass holder contrasts with the white toilet and paper roll. The circular wall flange secures the shorter support, while the longer arm carries the roll in a horizontal position.
The open-ended design allows the paper roll to slide onto the rod without removing a spring-loaded spindle.
From Lamp Hardware to Bathroom Fixture
The comparison shows the loose brass parts beside the completed holder. What began as threaded pipes and lighting fittings became a bathroom accessory with a matching metal finish.
The project took only minutes to assemble, using parts made for a different purpose. Instead of purchasing a finished toilet paper holder, the homeowner used the dimensions and connections of lamp hardware to make one.
