This Highland Park Home Shows How Eclectic Design Actually Works

In Highland Park, this home was redesigned by Ashby Collective as an exercise in eclectic interior design built through contrast and proportion. The project began with a white, undecorated interior that allowed form, color, and material to define the space.

Rather than applying a single style, the design combines contemporary structure with vintage references, using artwork, texture, and scale to shape each room. The result is an interior that feels intentional, layered, and personal, without relying on excess or trend cues.

The living, kitchen, and dining areas were planned as connected spaces with distinct roles. In the living room, sculptural seating, mixed materials, and large artwork establish weight and balance. The kitchen introduces olive cabinetry and restrained detailing to ground the open plan while maintaining clarity and function.

In the dining room, a solid wood table, statement lighting, and saturated seating bring warmth and focus to the space. Together, these rooms show how eclectic design can feel cohesive when decisions are guided by structure, material, and scale rather than decoration.

These secondary spaces extend the home’s eclectic interior design through scale and personal use. A low-seated office pairs built-in storage with warm tones and artwork, keeping the room functional without feeling formal.

The music lounge treats guitars as wall-mounted objects, turning personal items into structure and rhythm.

In the primary bedroom, muted colors, textured walls, and sculptural furniture create a calm setting that connects directly to the bathroom, reinforcing continuity across the suite.

The primary bathroom uses contrast and material to define the space. A dark wood double vanity supports a blue-gray stone counter that continues into the walk-in shower and tub surround. Simple mirrors and globe sconces keep the focus on texture and proportion. The freestanding tub and open shower share the same stone, creating a clear, unified layout without added decoration.
