Corten Steel Creates a Bold Urban Statement in This Toronto Home
Designed by Tact Design Inc., this modern Toronto residence makes a powerful first impression with its sculptural corten steel facade. Located at the edge of Cedarvale Park’s ravine, the house carefully navigates the tension between urban presence and natural retreat.
It’s not the first time we’ve featured a corten steel facade. Our readers love the texture, warmth, and timeless character that this weathered material brings to contemporary homes.
At the front, the corten cladding creates a grounded, architectural silhouette that feels both refined and rugged. It sets the tone for the rest of the design: a bold yet balanced mix of expression and restraint. The back of the home opens completely to the landscape, with large windows and a shaded yard blurring the boundary between indoor and outdoor living.
Inside, warm wood accents soften the industrial edge of the exterior. A sculptural wooden staircase becomes a central feature, connecting open-plan living areas with upper-floor retreats like the library and rooftop deck. Each space feels intentional and calm — from the cozy media room to the minimalist bathroom and bright children’s bedroom.
This is a home that speaks in contrasts: street-facing boldness and rear-facing serenity, industrial edge and natural warmth all tied together by a corten skin that continues to win hearts.
