DIY Concrete Knobs

Finding the perfect knobs for your cabinetry or piece of furniture can be a struggle. If you can’t find what you’re looking for at the store, try making your own. Concrete knobs are easy to DIY (even for complete beginners), cost-effective, and customizable.

We’ll walk you through making these whimsical and sweet heart-shaped concrete knobs. You can adjust the shape and colors to fit your needs.

DIY Cabinet Knobs Made From Concrete

Materials:

  • concrete mix
  • water
  • bowl
  • spoon
  • heart-shaped silicone mold
  • paint brush
  • white and pink acrylic paint
  • screws

How to craft step by step:

Step 1: Mix the concrete with water

Place the correct ratio of concrete mix and water in a disposable plastic bowl, per the manufacturer’s instructions.  Mix with a plastic spoon until your concrete reaches a smooth, paste-like consistency.

(Note: Use a disposal bowl and spoon to mix concrete. Don’t use your good bowls or silverware, as they’ll be hard to clean afterward.)

Step 2: Add the concrete to a silicone mold

Pour the concrete mixture into your silicone mold. We chose a heart-shaped mold, but you can use any shape.

Use a spoon to fill each mold with concrete. Fill as many as you want, but make at least a couple extra in case some break or don’t turn out well.

Step 3: Insert one screw into each little concrete heart

After pouring the concrete mixture, insert one screw into each mold. Ensure the head of the screw (flat side) is submerged in the concrete. Try to center the screws so they’re even and level when you install them. Then let the concrete harden overnight.

Step 4: Remove the concrete hearts from the mold

After the concrete has hardened, pop your knobs out of the mold. The silicone mold is flexible, so you can bend it to make the process easier.

Step 5: Apply a base coat of paint

If needed, use a piece of sandpaper to blend out imperfections. Then use your paintbrush to apply a coat of base paint onto the surface of each knob.  We used a pastel pink for the base color of our heart knobs.

Step 6: Add details using a second color or paint

Once your base coat of paint is dry, feel free to add details with a second color of acrylic paint. You can use the same design for all the knobs or try something different for each one. Have fun experimenting with a few patterns before you settle on a final design.
