Casa Terra Sol – Where Nature and Architecture Flow Together
Nestled in the lush landscapes of Trancoso, Bahia, Casa Terra Sol blends contemporary Brazilian architecture with the serenity of tropical living. Designed by 73.Onze Arquitetura, this 1,094 m² villa sits on flat land embraced by native trees and opens onto a preserved green area, offering unobstructed views and natural ventilation throughout.
The home’s layout follows the rhythm of the landscape, organizing bedrooms in a lateral ground-floor block to preserve existing vegetation, while upper rooms in the main volume overlook the pool and gardens through a shaded balcony wrapped in wooden brises.
The heart of the house lies in its ground-floor common areas, where open-plan living connects effortlessly with the outdoors via retractable glass panels. A central deck unites all volumes, inviting movement between interior and exterior spaces with ease. Natural light, cross breezes, and generous views are constants in every room. Slatted wood panels, pergolas, and terracotta pendant lights enhance the earthy palette, while handcrafted decor from local artisans adds a personal, tactile warmth.
Materials were chosen for both beauty and performance. The mix of a flat green roof and clay-tile structures provides visual contrast and thermal balance. Expanded clay insulation and brise-soleil ensure passive climate control. Indoors, whitewashed walls, cement floors, and rustic wood finishes create a neutral backdrop punctuated by rich textures and sun-warmed tones.
