Reclaimed wood flooring – an eco-friendly option that comes with many advantages

Wood flooring is very popular and is still very appreciated because of its natural beauty. It has a unique texture and adds warmth to the room. It also has strength and is easy to clean. But if everyone was to choose newly harvested wood for their homes, that wouldn’t be exactly good for the environment. Those that are particularly concerned about this problem have a different option: reclaimed wood flooring.

Reclaimed wood flooring is made from the wood taken from old and unused buildings before they get demolished. Even though it’s old, using it comes with lots of advantages. For example, reclaimed wood flooring has lots of character. Also, it’s an environmentally-friendly option. By using reclaimed wood you save trees. And it’s not just the wooden flooring saved from other buildings that can be used for this.

Beams and other pieces of lumber can also be cut into planks which can then be used to make new flooring. Not only that you save trees but you also reduce the waste created. Moreover, reclaimed wood presents other qualities as well. While freshly cut wood shrinks and swells and most, already aged wood is more resilient to moisture changes. Reclaimed wood also has a lot of character. As it ages, its grain absorbs all sorts of changes. Distressed wood look beautiful in rustic decors but it can also be used in other types of homes as well.
