About Weber

Around 1952, Weber was created by George Stephen. He came up with the idea of the famous dome/buoy-looking grills by taking a real buoy, cutting off the strings and putting legs on it. The company is known for their super high-quality material, which reflects the price and is one of the top BBQ grill brands today.

Weber vs Broil King

Build Quality

Both Broil King and Weber manufacture their grills in North America. But they both admit that they do source some components globally.  So, for quality, they’re both the same so there’s no differences here.

Trustworthiness

Because both brands have high-quality build grills, it is really down to the trust of customers.  For this, it seems that Weber outshines Broil King because there’s more positive customer reviews for Weber pretty much everywhere on the internet. They are seen as superior and high quality, so Weber takes the crown for this one.

Shipping

On the off chance that you can’t make it to the store, we want to talk about the shipping between the two.   Broil King doesn’t ship their own products, instead they rely on third party merchants to sell their products, which means it may cost more to buy something from them due to third party merchant fees.  Weber does in fact ship their own products and will even give you free shipping if you spend $50 or more, and there’s free shipping on major sites such as Amazon, BBQ Galore so it’s clear that with shipping, Weber takes the cake for this one.

Warranty

It’s always super important that companies offer warranties in case things are wrong with the product. It’s no exception with Broil King and Weber.

Weber offers a 10-year limited warranty, but on some of their parts, only just 2-5 years, depending on which parts need to be replaced.

Broil King also offers a 10-year limited warranty, but like Weber, on some parts, only 2-5 years, depending on what needs to be replaced.

So, both brands have generous warranties and pretty much the same, so it’s a tie.

Price Points

Both brands have similar price points, but Broil King is certainly almost cheaper than Weber.  But however, Broil King doesn’t have anything in the $100-$200 mark, while Weber does.  Weber offers their charcoal grills at that price point, making it an affordable grilling option. So, while Weber is expensive, you get good value for money with them, and they win for this round.

Gas vs Charcoal

Charcoal

Pros:

  • Affordable – It’s pretty obvious that it’s much cheaper to use charcoal for grilling because it can last a long time before being replaced.  Also, it helps that it’s portable as well.
  • Gets super-hot- The charcoal can get up to 700 degrees if you’re patient, you’ll never see that in a gas grill.
  • True BBQ/Grilled flavor– It’s the best way to get that chargrilled taste that you’re seeking. However, if you do end up using lighter fluid, you’ll probably taste that, so keep that in mind.

Cons:

  • Need charcoal chimney- It’s helpful to have to start the fire on the charcoal.
  • More cleanup– You literally have to dump out the ashes and clean the grease as well.  Also, if it’s windy you’ll have to be mindful of the ashes spreading out all over your deck.
  • Might be illegal- Some apartments don’t allow smoke like smells. It’s because some people may be allergic, and the fact you can’t just turn off and on.

Gas

Pros:

  • Easy to use – It’s like using a stove, it’s so easy to use. All you do is turn the propane on, then you turn the grill on. It’s that simple. When you’re done, you simply turn it off.
  • Quicker- If you’re looking for a quicker meal to get finished, a gas grill is the way to go. But we do recommend letting your gas grill heat up for 30 minutes, so that it will be hot, and ready to grill things quickly.

Cons:

  • Expensive- The good gas grills start around $200.  You could possibly be paying $500 or more if you want stainless steel and all the bells & whistles.
  • Gas is needed- Some people do opt to use a gas line to use their home’s natural gas, but that can be very costly. So, people do opt for propane tanks instead, it can cost $20-60 to buy a propane tank and $20 to refill it every time.

The Best Weber Portable Grills

Weber Q 2400 Portable 1560 Watt Electric Grill

First of all, you should know that it is portable, so you can take this with you anywhere. It boasts a 280 square inch cooking area with a 1560-watt heating element.  Because it’s compact and can fit anywhere, you’ll need to plug this grill in an electrical outlet for the grill to be operable. But the good news is, being an electric grill, it has the ability to seal in the juices.  You get cast iron cooking grates (really good for that char mark we love) and a cast aluminum bowl and lid, which means it is super durable. It has varying temperatures that you can control, which is good, from low to high and it has a drip/grease tray area that you can put an aluminum drip tray in to catch all the drippings.

The best feature about this grill is the heat retention because of its build quality. You will have perfectly cooked meat because of the heat retention and that’s why you should consider this grill.

This grill has a warranty on some parts ranging from 2 years to 5 years so if things are defective or not to your satisfaction, you’ll have that, and Weber has excellent customer service.

Pros:

  • Excellent Heat Retention
  • Decent grilling space
  • Good Warranty

Cons:

  • No built-in thermometer
  • Grill costs more than other brands
  • Food isn’t crispy if cooking on low

Weber Q 2200 Portable Propane Gas Grill

View in gallery

The Q 2200 grill by Weber uses propane (one of the smaller ones) so that’s always a plus instead of using electricity. You get 280 square inches for cooking space, so obviously it’s perfect for cooking for yourself or a couple other people. It can easily heat up to 550 degrees, so you can definitely get that steak out if you want to get that beautiful sear on it.  It has cast iron grates, which is why it retains heat well. The build is made from aluminum cast, so it won’t warp because it’s that high quality.

This model also has side tables which is always nice because you can put your BBQ accessories on it while grilling.  The most prominent downside we can discuss is just one burner. That means you can’t do indirect heat cooking, because it’s only one temperature that you can cook at. Also, it is about 42 pounds, so it’s not exactly lightweight, so you’ll need the cart to help transport it around.

All in all, it’s a great grill if you live in an apartment or very small space. You can pretty much store this anywhere because it’s compact.

Like with all Weber grill warranties, there is a warranty ranging from 2 years to 5 years, depending on which parts are defective so at least there’s that.
