These Scrap Wood Pallets Turned Into Vertical Storage That Organizes Craft Paper and Wrapping Rolls
Wood pallets are often discarded after deliveries, but their structure makes them useful for simple storage projects. With only a few modifications, a standard pallet can become vertical wall storage that holds craft paper, wrapping paper, and other rolled materials.
Mounted upright, the pallet’s horizontal slats naturally create compartments where rolls can sit without falling over. A few added boards turn those spaces into deeper shelves that keep materials organized and easy to access. This makes the idea especially useful for small craft rooms where long paper rolls tend to clutter corners or cabinets.
How the Pallet Storage System Works
The pallet acts as the main frame of the storage unit. By adding boards between the existing pallet slats, small pocket shelves are created that hold rolled materials upright.

- Plan the storage layout – Stand the pallet vertically and decide where shelves should go. The existing horizontal boards can be used to form several compartments, while the top section can remain open for longer paper rolls.
- Measure the shelf gaps – Measure the space between the pallet slats and the top frame. These measurements determine the size of the wood pieces needed to create the shelf pockets.
- Cut the shelf boards – Cut spare wood boards to fit between the slats. Each board will close the bottom of a compartment and form a pocket shelf.
- Nail the boards into place – Attach the boards using nails and a hammer. Once secured, each section becomes a small shelf that holds paper rolls upright.
- Paint or label the organizer – Painting the front boards adds contrast and makes the storage easier to identify. Labels can also be added to mark different types of materials such as wrapping paper, crepe paper, or fabric.
Mounting the Storage Unit
Because the pallet organizer will hold multiple rolls of paper, it should be mounted securely.
The safest approach is to:
