These Brass Pipes Turn Into a Modern Hanging Planter That Instantly Fills an Empty Corner
A few short brass pipes and a piece of twine can turn into a geometric hanging planter that adds greenery to an empty wall or window corner. The structure forms a simple metal frame that holds a bowl or planter while creating a modern shape that works well in small spaces.
Because the design uses short pipe sections connected with twine, the planter frame is lightweight and easy to customize. Different pipe lengths can create larger or smaller frames, allowing the planter to fit bowls of various sizes.
This simple project creates a decorative hanging planter using only a few materials and basic tools.
How the Hanging Planter Works
The planter frame is built from small brass pipe segments connected with twine. When threaded together, the pipes form a geometric pentagon base that holds the bowl. Longer pipe sections extend upward and meet at the top, creating the hanging structure.
The frame includes three main sections:
- Lower frame that supports the bowl
- Middle section that stabilizes the shape
- Top frame where all strings meet to form the hanger
Once assembled, the bowl sits inside the metal frame while the twine holds the structure suspended from a hook.
Materials Needed
This project uses only a few supplies:
- brass metal tubing
- pipe cutter
- tape measure
- twine, string, or thin wire
- bowl or small planter
- plants
How to Turn Brass Pipes Into a Hanging Planter
1. Cut the pipe sections
Measure around the bowl or planter you want to hang. Cut the brass pipe into three groups of pieces:
- 5 short pieces for the base (about 2.5 inches)
- 5 medium pieces for the middle section (about 3 inches)
- 5 long pieces for the upper section (about 6 inches)
These lengths can be adjusted depending on the size of the planter.
2. Prepare the twine
Cut five long pieces of twine. These strands will connect the metal pieces and form the structure of the planter.
3. Build the base frame
Start by threading two pieces of twine through one of the short pipe segments. Continue connecting the remaining short pipes in the same way until all five pieces form a pentagon shape.
Pull the twine tight so the pipes sit evenly and the base frame holds its shape.
4. Add the middle and top sections
At each corner of the pentagon, thread the two strands of twine upward through one medium pipe piece and one long pipe piece.
Repeat this process for all five points of the base.
5. Secure the hanging point
Once the pipes are threaded into place, gather all of the twine strands at the top and tie them together in a strong knot. An additional piece of twine can be used to create a loop for hanging.
6. Add the planter
Place a bowl or planter inside the metal frame and add your plants. Hang the structure from a wall hook, ceiling hook, or window bracket.
Why This Simple Project Works
This type of planter combines a few simple elements:
- lightweight metal tubing
- flexible twine connections
- a geometric frame
Because the structure hangs vertically, it works well in corners, windows, or small apartments where floor space is limited.
Using brass pipes also gives the planter a modern look that pairs well with many interior styles while keeping the project simple enough for a quick DIY build.
