Shipping Containers Reimagined as Stylish Farmhouse Retreats in India

Tucked into the foothills of the Aravalli Range, the Container House project by RSDA transforms humble shipping containers into two inviting, light-filled homes named Champa and Chameli.

Champa is formed from five 20-foot containers in a U-shaped layout, while Chameli uses two 40-foot containers arranged linearly. Both homes feature full-height glass doors, simple interiors with warm wood finishes, and colorful accent furniture. Each includes a private bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and a large shaded deck for seamless indoor-outdoor living.

To offset the harsh Indian climate, the architects raised the containers on metal piers and topped them with ventilated bamboo roofs. Insulated walls, natural ventilation, and clever use of local materials help maintain comfort year-round. The result is a grounded yet forward-thinking retreat, proving that even steel boxes can feel like home.
