Modern Barn House Rooted in the Dutch Landscape

Tucked into the quiet meadows of Maasland, the Meadow House by JURY! is a remarkable reinterpretation of the traditional Dutch dike house. This renovation retains the grounded charm of the original structure while transforming it into a barn-inspired modern retreat. Clad in aged Padouk wood and stucco, the clean gabled silhouette honors rural architecture while embracing contemporary design principles.

What stands out is the home’s serene connection to the landscape. Expansive glass walls run the length of the house, dissolving the boundaries between inside and out. From the sunken concrete base to the sharp ridge of the pitched roof, every line accentuates horizontality, drawing your eye to the sweeping polder views.

The central open-plan volume houses a fireplace, kitchen, and storage, subtly organizing the floor without interrupting the space. The ceiling is finished in warm wood slats that enhance the sense of calm and add acoustic softness.

The living area is the heart of the home, a vaulted space filled with light, furnished with custom cabinetry and a hidden TV wall. Every material, from the concrete floors to the terrazzo staircase and the rich timber ceilings, was chosen to create a warm but minimal atmosphere.

Meadow House isn’t just a residence, it’s a quiet dialogue between thoughtful architecture and the flat Dutch landscape it calls home.
