Modern Solidity Meets Transparent Lightness in a Corfu Stone Villa
This summer villa in Corfu merges the rugged charm of hand-shaped local stone with crisp architectural precision. The stone veneer anchors the house visually and structurally, lending a timeless, almost fortress-like presence.
Yet this weight is cleverly offset by the extensive use of glass, most notably in the curved glass balustrades that line the terraces. Designed by Tony Wynbourne, Georgios Apostolopoulos Architects, and Makis Gisdakis, these transparent railings add a contemporary softness to the geometry, curving with the architecture and maintaining uninterrupted sea views.
The contrast continues in the sleek aluminum door and window frames, which sit cleanly within the thick stone walls—modern insertions that frame the natural landscape like a living mural. From inside, the effect is serene: minimal interiors, subdued tones, and wide-format openings that place full focus on the surrounding sea and olive trees.
It’s a masterclass in architectural duality—where solid stone meets transparent fluidity, and every detail quietly serves the landscape.
