Does Baking Soda Kill Ants?

Baking soda alone won’t stop an ant problem, but with the right mix, it can help. On its own, ants won’t eat it. But when combined with powdered sugar or boric acid, it becomes a useful bait.
What Works:
- Baking Soda + Powdered Sugar
- Mix equal parts and leave in a shallow dish. The sugar attracts ants, and the baking soda can disrupt their digestion after they eat it.
- Baking Soda + Boric Acid + Sugar
- Add boric acid to the mix for a stronger solution—but keep it away from kids and pets. Replace weekly.
- Sprinkle Outdoors
- Use either mix to line patios or picnic tables—but reapply after rain or wind.
What Doesn’t Work:
- Scattering plain baking soda won’t do much—ants won’t eat it.
- Better Natural Alternatives:
- Diatomaceous Earth – dries out ants when they crawl through it
- Baby Powder (Talc) – similar effect
- Boiling Water – kills ants in outdoor nests (use with caution)
