A 540 m² Duplex Blends Elegance, Function, and Family Comfort
Architect Simara Mello designed this 540 m² duplex in Curitiba, Brazil, for a family of five seeking comfort, function, and style. Purchased during construction, the home was fully customized, with major layout changes including the removal of interior walls to open up the living and kitchen areas, and repurposing the staircase space to expand the living room.
Natural stone was used throughout the lower floor, creating visual cohesion, while warm wood accents and matte finishes added comfort to the modern aesthetic. Floor-to-ceiling windows highlight the view of Barigui Park and flood the space with natural light.
The living area features a neutral palette with a modular sofa, caramel leather lounge chair, and terrazzo coffee table. The dining room includes a custom wine wall and minimalist wood furniture. Twin bedroom suites were carefully balanced in size and layout, each with dedicated study space.
Custom furnishings support daily routines, and layered lighting from built-ins to candles—creates a cozy, adaptable atmosphere. The result is a refined, family-friendly space tailored to modern life.
