Huron-Kinloss Cottage: Defined by Its Pitched Wood Shingle Roof
Set on a narrow infill lot near Lake Huron, this cottage designed by Setless Architecture, uses a sharply pitched wood shingle roof to shape both its structure and interior. The twisting roof ridge creates dynamic rooms upstairs while maintaining a compact footprint.
Large triangular windows follow the roofline, framing views of the forest and allowing light into every corner. The exterior features cedar shakes and natural stone, blending the building into its wooded surroundings. Design by Setless Architecture.
The open-concept layout includes a modern kitchen with rift white oak cabinets, quartz countertops, and stainless steel appliances. Large patio doors open directly to the yard and beach access. A stone-clad fireplace anchors the living space, flanked by two sitting areas, with an extra guest bedroom upstairs.
Custom millwork provides clean storage solutions throughout—integrated closets, hidden doors, and under-cabinet lighting keep the interior functional and uncluttered. High-performance windows make the natural views a central feature in every room.
