Where the Kitchen Meets the Living Room Around a Raw Concrete Column
In the Alma Apartment, designed by BLOCO Arquitetos in Brasília, the heart of the home lies in the seamless integration of the kitchen and living room.
A central island with a built-in stove anchors the open-plan space. The clean lines, natural wood finishes, and subtle marble accents establish a warm yet contemporary character.
One of the standout architectural gestures is the restoration of the concrete pillars, left raw to reveal their original texture. In the living room, the cylindrical column becomes a sculptural presence that contrasts with the softness of the furnishings. Paired with wide windows that overlook Burle Marx Park, the room captures both structural honesty and a sense of openness flooded with natural light.
The interior is further personalized through an “affective gallery” of paintings and prints arranged behind the sofa. This layering of art, raw materiality, and functional design reflects the project’s guiding principle: preserving the apartment’s essence while reimagining its flow. The result is a living environment that balances architectural rigor with comfort and personality.
