This Chalet Is a Modern Tribute to Alpine Heritage
Nestled in Italy’s scenic Ahrntal valley, the Amonti Chalets by Andreas Gruber Architekten reinterpret the traditional mountain lodge through a minimalist lens. The development consists of 23 apartments and a main building arranged like a historic alpine hamlet.
Dark-timber façades, low-slung volumes, and rhythmic balcony details create a quiet harmony between architecture and landscape.
The chalets embrace a restrained material palette of wood, stone, and glass. Expansive glazing connects the calm interiors to the forested slopes, while soft textiles and sculptural fireplaces add warmth to the muted gray tones. Each element reflects precision and craftsmanship—modern yet rooted in regional character.
From the use of local materials to a decentralized biomass heating system. Complementing the residential units, a wellness house with pools, saunas, and panoramic rest areas enhances the retreat’s serene atmosphere. The result is an architecture that feels both timeless and contemporary—anchored in alpine tradition yet speaking the language of modern minimalism.
