Redesigning Heritage: How European Apartments Are Being Reimagined
In the heart of Barcelona, a historic apartment has been reimagined by Michele Rhoda—one of the AD Top 100 Interior Designers—into a refined modern retreat. The project preserves the essence of the original structure: high ceilings, deep-set windows, and ornate iron balconies, while introducing a clean, crafted interior language.
Wood-clad walls, sculptural lighting, and bespoke furnishings contrast with the building’s classical shell. Sightlines are opened up through discreet shelving and concealed lighting, while heavy drapery is replaced with light-filtering fabrics to maximize natural light.
As Rhoda explains, “It’s about balancing history and innovation.” The result is a calm, curated sanctuary that speaks to today’s globally mobile lifestyle—functional, tactile, and rooted in design clarity.
