A Wood-Clad Mountain Chalet Split Into Two Mirrored Residences

In Kvilda, 1000 meters above sea level in the Czech Republic there’s a beautiful mountainous region with magnificent landscape and a charming chalet.

The structure was built here in 2018 and was a project done by studio triarkitekti. It consists of a large multi-level chalet divided into two separate units. The residences mirror each other and are very similar in terms of design and layout. Each has its own entrance at the front as well as its own back door and access to a shared front porch seamlessly nestled underneath the massive roofline.

The two residential units inside this beautiful chalet also have a communal space on the ground floor, a sauna, a private area upstairs and a basement level. The attic and the basement are different from one another and use contrasting materials, namely concrete for the lower section and wood for the upstairs. They’re framed by a design based on a traditional layout. The chalet has a modest exterior with facades clad in wood and a slate roof that extends over the sides. All of these rustic and traditional details are intertwined with a variety of modern elements which ultimately results in an eclectic design.
