Vittra Telefonplan- another Vittra’s Swedish School

Once again I have the opportunity to share with you my extraordinary Swedish experience which took place almost 17 years ago. A team of five Romanian teachers and five Romanian pupils where one of them it was me was invited by other groups of teachers and pupils in Sweden. It was an exchange of experience based on the ideas of ways of taking care of environment and the system of education in both countries. For almost 12 days I had the opportunity to visit many schools or other educational places, see some extraordinary people and admire a lovely country. Their practical way which dominates all the fields has fascinated me. I was amazed to see even kids who were taught to work with their hands and create some small and useful things. They were taught to manage the real life situations.

In Sweden there are 30 freeschool organizations Vittra which are based on the same principles. Here there are no classes or classrooms, as they do not believe in regular classes but in the idea to create an everyday for the individual students.

Such an example is Telefonplan, a Vittra freeschool located in Hägersten, Stockholm in Sweden and designed by Rosan Bosch.It is a remarkable place for differentiated learning where there are no classical rooms with chairs and tables and the whole design and interiors were adapted to Vittra’s interactive work with digital media and a generally digitalized didactic.

Instead of the classical rooms there are other spaces like an iceberg for example which is used as cinema, platform and room for relaxation.There are also flexible laboratories which allow you to work hands-on with themes and projects.Since this type of school has proved to be so successful the Telefonplan project appeared in a design manual which is meant to be used for other Vittra’s schools in Sweden.{found on archdaily and pics by Kim Wendt}
