Unconventional space by G&R Studio

It’s easy to say that you want your home to be unique, unlike anything else you’ve seen, to be contemporary and fun, dramatic and chic. Doing it, on the other hand, turns out be a real challenge. I dare you to top this design!. It’s one of the most unconventional spaces I’ve ever seen, eve though it wasn’t originally designed to be a home. It’s not because of the interior décor, because that one is actually very simple. What’s striking about this residence is the architecture and the actual shape.

I can only imagine that living in that home would be like sitting in a giant origami. Notice all the folds and unconventional shapes, walls and all the geometrical elements. There’s no way you could predict any of the elements in this house. The residence was designed by Spanish architectural firm G&R Studio and it was a collaboration between Hector Ruiz-Velazquez and Javier Garcia.

Actually, the origami metaphor is very close to the original idea. As you enter, there’s an unusual structure that then starts to turn like a piece of paper and form all sorts of shapes. There’s a wooden centerpiece designed to leave open the living space and to provide privacy to the bedroom and bathroom and to also encase the staircase that leads to the second floor. Another interesting and unusual element is the contrast between the stark walls and the black marble floor.

In order to maintain the futuristic and minimalist look, the appliances the decoration share geometrical shapes. This space was called the “Inhabited Fold” and it was actually a project commissioned by Whirpool to showcase some of their latest and most innovative home appliances in Casa Decor Barcelona. However, it would make a very interesting home.{found on Nuevo Estilo}
