Two houses turned into a duplex by JUMA Architects

This duplex used to be two separate houses. It was Belgian firm JUMA Architects that transformed it into what you see now. The merger was a project developed in collaboration with Minimum Arquitectura. It was actually a renovation project. The two houses were converted into one big structure: a duplex. The external staircases were demolished and a new internal staircase was created.

The project turned out to be a great idea. Both houses had similar internal structures. Moreover, they both had extensive outdoor areas that, after the duplex was created, became one big outdoor area. The duplex now benefits from panoramic views of the landscape. The two houses now share a dining area, a lounge and a private swimming pool along with a sunny patio. The duplex also has a wooden sun terrace and steel canopied. These elements were included in the design in order to create visual fusion between the two originally separate structures.

Because of the design of the duplex, the barrier between internal and external spaces is less visible. The transition is smooth and subtle. The furniture and interior décor also helps with that. The interior décor of the duplex is simple and the atmosphere is very relaxed and soothing. The living spaces benefit from beautiful views and the private spaces share the same stylish décor as the rest of the house.
